The Prelim Final has been run and won. Horace’s Heroes proved too strong for the crew from Norfolk & Chance. It was a great late season run by the little ‘folkers, but they couldn’t sustain it for another week. The end result of 111-102 showed the consistency of the Horace’s Heroes, averaging 37 points a piece for their three best scores.
And now the stage is set. The time has come. For these finely tuned athletes, after all of that hard work, training, and preparation….. hang on, who am I kidding? This a bunch of hackers who will probably all throw up on themselves under the pressure (me included). But it will be fun to watch!
In the battle for the flag, Drawshank Redemptions will tee it up against the dogged crew from Horace’s Heroes. There are 3 tee times set from 12:24pm this Saturday, and it will be a tight race to the finish line (or at least to the bar… 🍺🍺).
In the Red corner, for the Drawshanks we have:
The Hopster – always dependable under pressure, our Pennant leader will be a force to contend with.
Slammin’ Sladey – 2020 is the year of Sladey. He has opened up the year in ripping form and is a big contender for MVP.
Big Stef – stand back and hold my beer. This bloke will let them fly. Great teammate and a big contributor.
George (Foreman) Huggard – This guy is a giant-killer. Softly spoken, with a powerful punch – he will be there when the whips are cracking.
Wonder-kid Webb – the evergreen Webby is a big time player. When he is needed, you know he’ll show up. I feel a big score coming from this bloke.
The artist formerly known as Captain. Me – someone has to keep this lot on track – hopefully I can find a few putts this weekend.
From the Blue Corner (in the baggy pants), for Horace’s Heroes are:
The Killa – no introduction necessary. Stone cold assassin in team competitions, this burglar will be up for it on game day. Watch out for him.
Big-hitting Bicko – Doesn’t mind a bit of a chirp this bloke, but has the ability to let his clubs do the talking. Despite joining the senior ranks recently, he will still bring it.
Mickey Blue Eyes (Peters) – a quiet dark horse that is capable of busting out a score. Has been a solid recruit for Horace’s and will need to show it again for the GF.
Agent Orange – twinkle-toes knows his way around a final. A big time player that usually shows up when needed. Clearly gets dressed in the dark, but manages to find his clubs (and the hole) when he has to.
Dodgy Lodgey – Could sell sand to an Arab and talks a pretty good game, this bloke, and has shown form to back it up. He’s looking for one last big team showing before heading North.
Rowdy – The Big Dog – El Capitan – Mannall – A matchplay menace for many years, this fella loves a scrap and will lead from the front for the woofers.
It is bound to be a great Grand Final. One team will win, and take home the glory. Who will it be? Let the banter begin, and bring on the golf!
Cheers lads!
