Well, dress me up and call me Dorothy….. I don’t think we are in Kansas any more Toto…. The WWC tornado has blown a few teams away this week.
Wow. There are some stunning upsets in these results – and some stellar golf, it must be said. Where do I start?
Pool A matches were tighter than the other groups, but finals pressure does funny things. Some stood up… Some wilted.
Chronic Fatigue (6) def. The Back 9 Bandits (1) – 98-95
With only 3 players, the Chronic Crew scraped up enough points to stave off the fast finishing Bandits. Ben Newton & Luke Anstee the stars in this match.
Drawshank Redemptions (2) def. Cockatoos (5) – 109-99
The Cocky Cage was a little empty, with a couple of Budgies having flown the coop, and the Drawshanks were steady. Great round from George Huggard with 38.
Grip N Sip (4) def. Angry Aardvarks (3) – 110-108
The Grippers have been a Smokey pick all year, and came up trumps. Will Nichols & Ben Alexander were the standouts. The Aardvarks put up a good fight, but a Captain’s (or Major’s) knock could not be found to save the day.
Pool B matches again provided their share of drama, with an upset and a tight tussle.
Jug A Nauts (6) def. 40 Over (1) – 112-104
Wow-man had the boys fired up, and they ran over the 40-Overs like a truck. Actually, more like a tractor… with the Mighty Ferg leading the way with a huge 41. Honourable mentions to Matt Sefton and Hayden Matthews for the Jugs, and Darren McFarlane for the Overs.
Par Then Bar (2) def. Jugheads (5) – 107-82
An undermanned Jugheads couldn’t match the Barflies this week. Big 38 from Russ Franz and a solid 36 from Shane and the Par Then Bar crew were home.
Par Tee Time (3) def. 2-Non-Johns (4) – 105-103
Ryan Brown led the way for Par Tee Time with 38, with Skipper Roebuck in support. Solid team effort. The Non-Johns were unlucky, with their most consistent team effort for the season coming up just a couple short. Nice rounds from Pete Addo and Jim Thorpe (JT), too.
Pool C matches were like a bag of licorice allsorts……
Hosel Rockets (1) def. Wuhan Warriors (6) – 105-98
Neale Wigney stood up for the Hosels with a fine 38, with Deano behind him on 34. They were too strong for the Warriors, who were a little short (injuries, apparently) and couldn’t manage to muster the numbers. Jay Oates and Clint Hocking were valiant in defeat with a pair of 34s.
Lynch Mob (2) def. Why knots untangled? – 105-68
The Why knots? Ladies fell short his week, as they struggled for players. Lynch Mob were steady as she goes, as usual. Nice 37 from skipper Lynchie and a solid 35 from John Gordon combined to crush the championship dream for Why Knots?
Hold on to your hats, folks…
Who’s Ya Caddy? (3) def. Squirrel Nation (4) – on a count back – 86-86
In a dour struggle, Daniel Lee’s 33 was good enough to beat Killa’s 32 on a count back, and the Caddy Crew sneak through to week 2 of the playoffs. Devastating loss for the improving Squirrels.
And now we are on to Playoffs Week 2. Winners stay alive for the title, losers into the Wooden Spoon bracket. See attached for this week’s matches. They are 3-sided matches, with 2 winners going through in the Championship bracket, and 2 losers staying on for the Wooden Spoon bracket, respectively.
I’ll try to get a preview of this week’s form in before the weekend. Have a great Wardrobe World Cup Week.
Cheers,
Laney
