Message from the President
Welcome to the 2026 Golfing Year……Lots of good things happening at the Club with the renovations in full swing. Due to the amount of works and machinery working around the club, please take care and utilise the new driveway/walkways that have been put in place by the contractors. Any questions regarding renovations should be directed to the TCCR Managers.
Thanks to all outgoing committee members and welcome to all new those people that have kindly given up their time to join the committees in 2026.
Once again the 1st quarter of the year sees a busy golf calendar, major events to pencil in.
-
Mixed 4BBB Champs Sunday 8th Feb, get your partner ready for this day.
-
Men’s Club Champs 21st 22nd & 28th Feb.
-
Ladies Club Champs 21st 25th 28th March.
-
Beyond Blue Charity Day 7th March.
Local Rules
Thanks to the working committee that worked on and implemented the new local rules. The new local rules are now in place, please ensure you are ofay with these new local rules which are posted on MI Score and in the Breezeway near the Pro Shop.
Speed of Play
All golfers should be mindful of the speed of play. Some groups have reported that it is taking up to 5hrs to complete a round which is unacceptable.
Groups are reminded that your position in the field is directly behind the group in front of you.
Competition rounds should take no more than 4hrs 20mins.
Bunkers and Divots
Golfers are reminded to rake bunkers, repair divots and pitch marks (even if they are not yours). Repairing of bunkers, divots and pitch marks will hopefully create a good flow on culture to the lazy people that can’t be bothered.
Junior Golf Report:
The program has been running for over 30 years and has had some very long serving coaches. The program would not have existed without the guidance from Penny, and it is fantastic to have her back on board coaching the next crop of TCCR future golfers. Joan has just completed 20 years’ service coaching Thurgoona juniors. If anyone has spent any time at the range on a Sunday morning they would see and hear how valuable Joan is to this program. She is adored by both students and parents and is a big part of the success of our program. John Gordon is another long serving coach with the program, having completed 14 years. John, with the help of Mat Rogers have the hardest job on a Sunday morning, trying to keep 35 wombats (6 and under) on task and engaged.
Joining our volunteer coaches each week are our PGA coaches in Bryan, Tim Purtill, Penny, Lochie Semmler and Nick Brennan. Special mention must go to Bryan for the extra effort to ensure that the program runs smoothly. Bryan spends countless hours of his own time ensuring that we have everything required for the program to continue to be a success. Bryan was recently a successful applicant for a golf NSW grant aimed at giving young girls greater opportunities with their golfing journeys.
The program currently has over 120 registered participants and regularly has between 90 – 100 kids every Sunday morning. Thank you to Adam and the Golf Committee team at TCCR for their continued support of junior golf at Thurgoona. I’m sure the next crop of Thurgoona pennant players are only a few years away as we continue to make our club stronger through programs like ours.

2026 Golfing Calendar
The new 2026 Golfing Calendar in now available for viewing on the TCCR website. Thanks to the Committee members, Pro-shop staff and Dean Lewis for working on the 2026 program. With the course being so busy and continued maintenance required, setting a program is not an easy task. Well done team….
Superintendents Report Jan 2026
-
Greens are in good health considering recent weather. Some infection and growth of mushrooms has appeared and is now being treated
-
Regular dusting and grooming of the greens are required.
-
Growth application is currently being done.
-
Tyne and aeration planned for the end of February.
-
Continuing spot spraying for weeds
-
Extra traffic is causing damage to the course which is suffering. Approx 75,000 games of golf last year and upwards of 70% is with carts.
-
Golf carts are not helping the course, and we need to enforce only two carts per group.
Presentation Night
2025 Presentation night was well attended, congratulations to all major event winners. Those people that won a perpetual trophy, please ensure they are returned to the club and placed in the trophy cabinet asap.
Hopefully the new function room is completed by the end of the year so as we can hold our biggest ever presentation night later this year.
Happy Golfing
Peter Nugent (Nugget) – Golf Committee President
